who is Danilo?

Danilo is 12 years old and has multiple disabilities due to congenital brain disorders. His sight is very limited and he cannot speak. He is unable to sit, stand, eat, drink or move normally and needs constant help in doing any of these things.

Danilo is surrounded by the love of his parents, caregivers and physical therapists. However as he grows and gets bigger, it is becoming more and more difficult for Danilo to exercise and be mobile.

On April 16, 2020 we fulfilled a long-cherished wish by setting up the Danilo Foundation at the civil-law notary.

3 board members were appointed when the foundation was established:

  • Robin Kloppenborg (treasurer);
  • Roel de Groot (secretary)
  • Willy Hesselink (chairman)

The foundation is actively supported by the following people (project organization / action committee):

  • Hans Beumers (activities)
  • Alie Rozenberg (action and communication)
  • Kim Hesselink (promotions and FB communication)
  • Marcel Winters and Renske  (IT support in collaboration with SPRNKL)
  • Robin Hesselink (actions and communication)

Bert Sanders has actively supported us in 2020, until his retirement (September).
The aim of the foundation is to (1) maintain or even improve Danilo's condition through exercise and (2) to be able to continue to support Danilo's long-term care in the future. We do not only do this for Danilo, but we hope, with sufficient funding, that we can also offer this to other children with mobility impairments.

The Danilo Foundation will try to achieve this goal by acquiring financial means, through '' crowdfunding '', gifts, donations, etc. We want to motivate private individuals, but also companies to organize and / or participate in activities to achieve this goal. www.danilofoundation.nl

Why does Danilo have to Move

Danilo has a strict daily schedule, with regular food and drink. But there is also a lot of practice during the day with Danilo to keep him from getting stiff. The physiotherapist normally comes here twice a week. Due to his dystonia, his muscles quickly get into a kind of cramp that consumes a lot of energy. This discomfort can be treated by actively stretching his muscles, reducing stiffness and making the pain bearable.

By actively moving Danilo, his muscles become more flexible and the movement also stimulates his bowel movements, so that he has less stomach pain.

Research shows that exercise is also good for your immune system, which means that Danilo will catch a cold less often or, worse still, develop pneumonia.

Exercise is important for every healthy person, including Danilo. Moving is healthy. To move is to enjoy. Exercise ensures that his body is and remains in shape. We add quality to his life so that we have to go to hospital with him less often.

Projects to get Danilo moving

We received an (larger) Innowalk through the Danilo Foundation that Danilo can use to move his legs every day. The device improves blood circulation in his body and promotes bowel movements. It also prevents physical complications such as fractures and deformities in his back.

We started a crowdfunding campaign at the beginning of 2020 to raise money for a new, larger Innowalk because he was grown out of the previous (loan) Innowalk. Despite the corona time, many people have moved through campaigns and donations to ensure that the Danilo Foundation could buy a larger Innowalk.

To keep Danilo moving, we have found a new tool that actively stimulates him to stimulate his muscles or to relax them.

This new tool is called: Mollii Pak. It is a unique aid for children with spasticity, limited mobility, increased and reduced muscle tone. The Mollii Pak provides electrical stimulation through specially designed clothing, helping to relax the body for greater mobility, functionality and activity.
